Professor George Braitberg AM OStJ is one of Australia’s most experienced emergency physicians, medical toxicologists, and health service leaders, with more than three decades of clinical, academic, and executive leadership experience. He is Director of Emergency Medicine Research and Quality at Austin Health, Professor of Critical Care and Academic Lead for Emergency Medicine at the University of Melbourne, and Adjunct Professor at Monash University. His expertise spans emergency medicine, medical toxicology, disaster and terror medicine, patient safety, quality improvement, clinical governance, health service management, and health system reform.

Professor Braitberg has authored more than 116 peer-reviewed publications, 18 book chapters, and numerous policy reports, with research focusing on emergency care models, patient safety, toxicology, disaster medicine, vulnerable populations, and healthcare system performance. He has led and contributed to major research programs funded by the NHMRC, MRFF, TAC, and health service partners.

A Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, American College of Medical Toxicology, Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, and International Board of Disaster Medicine, he is widely recognised for his contributions to healthcare governance and innovation. He currently serves on several state, national, and international advisory committees and boards. A Member of the Order of Australia (AM), Professor Braitberg is committed to advancing evidence-based emergency care, clinical excellence, and health system transformation.
